Overview

What this project is about

Cultivate Maize is a meaningful project centered around creating a clean, welcoming, and informative website for a hydroponic farmstand initiative. The project needed to communicate more than just information — it needed to reflect purpose, education, student involvement, and community impact.

The website has been an ongoing project for about 7 months, with several redesigns and improvements along the way. As the vision became clearer, the site continued evolving into something more refined, more interactive, and more aligned with its mission.

My Connection To This Project

Why this one means so much to me

I’ve always had a love for coding, but Cultivate Maize was the project that really helped turn that passion more specifically toward web development. Working on this case study helped me realize how much I enjoy not only writing code, but also designing digital experiences that feel purposeful, polished, and helpful to real people.

This project played a big role in shaping my direction. It showed me that websites can be more than just pages on a screen — they can tell a story, support a mission, and make information feel engaging and accessible. Because of that, this project became a major step in what pushed my coding passion further into the world of website design and development.

The Process

How the project developed over time

01

Starting Point

The project began with the goal of building a site that clearly explained the initiative and created a strong first impression.

02

Redesigns & Refinement

As the project grew, it went through multiple redesigns to improve structure, visuals, usability, and overall presentation.

03

Interactive Improvements

More thoughtful content sections, stronger organization, and more engaging layouts were introduced to better showcase the full vision.

04

Ongoing Growth

This is still a working project, which makes it especially meaningful — it continues to evolve as ideas improve and the mission expands.

What I Focused On

Main goals for the website

Clear Messaging

Make the mission easy to understand and create a website that explains the purpose of the project in a simple, approachable way.

Modern Visual Style

Use a design style that feels clean, welcoming, and current while still matching the values of education, sustainability, and growth.

Stronger Structure

Organize information in a way that feels easier to explore and more engaging for users.

Long-Term Flexibility

Build the site in a way that allows for future updates, improvements, and additional content.

Project Impact

Why this case study stands out

A major portfolio project

Cultivate Maize stands out as one of my most important projects because of its depth, timeline, and continued evolution. It represents a lot more than a simple one-time build — it represents growth, problem solving, redesign thinking, and long-term commitment.

Growth as a developer

This project helped strengthen my confidence as a web developer by showing me how design, structure, and coding all work together to create a strong experience. It pushed me to think beyond code alone and focus on how a website should feel and function.
